The digressive valving used ensures optimal operation at low and high damping speeds.
Made from 2.5″ diameter aluminum with a wall thickness of 3/16″, the shock absorbers have a large internal fluid capacity for effective cooling and durability – both on- and off-road.
The external reservoir is connected to the shock absorber by a steel braided, synthetically lined hydraulic hose that can withstand operating pressures of up to 3,000 psi, with optimized flow channels that ensure uninterrupted oil flow.
A novel valve system with parabolic shim application (Patent Application No. 63/743,954) provides a compact and simplified design, eliminating problems common to conventional methods and enabling accurate performance.
The complete design allows maximum use of the piston rod length and offers more stroke than any other monotube shock absorber of similar size – even the inner portions of the ends have been rolled to increase the stroke.
The Type III (Mil-Spec) hard anodizing process used on the shock absorber piston protects it from wear caused by rapid fluid flow, resulting in a long component life.
The 7/8″ piston rods are hard chrome plated and induction hardened to a hardness of over 60 on the Rockwell (C) scale, surpassing most competing solutions in terms of durability. They provide maximum protection against stone impact and allow for smooth seal operation.
Triple set of seals prevent oil leakage and dirt ingress. A removable end cap (Bump Cap) protects the seal set at full bump and allows service access.
The shock mounts with built-in offset brackets that allow more suspension travel while maintaining the factory OE fit.
The RockSport Black shocks come with a reservoir mount made of 1/8″ thick, laser-cut sheet metal with a gold zinc finish.
Also included is a lower shock mount in a gold zinc finish, designed to move the mounting point further away from the Jeep frame, increasing ground clearance and protecting the shock itself. This mount is made from 3/16″ thick hot-rolled steel, laser-cut and CNC-formed for a perfect fit.
Note: RockSport Black shocks are large 2.5″ long-stroke shocks. They are a direct fit for JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator models with the corresponding mounts. All 2.5″ diameter shocks require a customized approach to fitment – you may need to use additional bumpers, rims with proper offset, provide clearance at the brake calipers, etc. If in doubt – contact us.
